Towing and towing safely are two different things. I have posted previously, fairley extensive discussions mostly with respect to weight distributing hitches on the difference between handling and ability when all is in perfect working order and in an emergency response situation such as a blow out or losing a wheel. Innussbau would not have faired well, based on his discussion if he had experienced a blow out or flat during some of his more strenuous climbs. glad it didn't happen but I like a better safety margin.

We have pulled our 3124 with a 98 dodge mini vam w/3.3 and factory towing. Dodge needs weight eq hitch to get the 3500 lb rating. It pulls well and ride better on the flat, than our I-6 Envoy. But need the extra guts of the Envoy for the mountains.

We had a Mercury Mountaineer (same as Explorer) with tow package towing a 3124KS and felt that it was not adequate. I think it would have felt more adequate pulling a smaller TM. Quuen
