Dave,

I think you are on to something here. I like this idea and don't see why it wouldn't work or meet the requirements. For clarification, are you suggesting a vent to run inside the walls or along the walls. Inside the walls would be a pretty narrow vent, right? Not sure if there is a regulation on the size/diameter of the venting.

Yes, I’m talking about running it inside the wall. Vent diameter is probably dependent upon height, though I don’t know what that relationship is, but I agree, a round vent could very well be too small. But a rectangular vent pipe could be used to get a much larger opening and still fit inside the wall. Such vent pipe is also used in residential construction as well. That may increase the flange size though, but if you kept them rectangular too they could still be kept with a low profile. The flange on the top shell is really the only that might matter, as making it too large would make it more obtrusive — I don’t see how the size of the one on the bottom shell wouldn’t be the limiting factor.
