Default Bag seal repair?

Hi all,

We finished our second camping trip in the TM. Overall, successful trip. We discovered a leak in the roof vent, but I have already finished resealing it. I noticed a tear (about two inches) in the bag seal around the front shell. I confess that I believe this is a result of my closing the shell after forgetting to remove the water pressure regulator...ughh. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions for sealing this tear? Perhaps a certain type of tape with a strong adhesive?

Thanks,

John

It sounds like your water pressure regulator is on the wrong end of the hose. It should be on the supply faucet, ahead of the hose.

I've used white Gorilla Tape, clean around the area with alcohol, let it dry, apply the tape and press it out. It's really just duct tape on steroids, really tough stuff too. Alternately, you'll find excess seal lapped and folded over itself on the underside of the shells. You can cut some from there and use contact cement to secure a patch. Coat both the patch and the tear, let it dry and press the patch on. Once the two pieces of material touch, however, it's permanent, so go slowly.

Thanks for the suggestions. The next time I have the TM open, I'll look for some excess material. In the meantime, I'll investigate the Gorilla tape. I already have some white duct tape that I was thinking about using as a temporary fix, but it sounds like the Gorilla tape would be more durable.

Bill, I didn't realize that it mattered to which end of the hose the pressure regulator was attached. I now see a few websites that support your statement, but I am not understanding the science behind it. Just curious as to why -- are the hoses susceptible to wear from increased pressure?

There are quite a few pictures on the web of the regulators attached to the RV city water inlet. In fact, one website I saw that says to put the regulator on the water source before the hose had a supporting photo with the regulator (and filter) attached to the RV. (https://www.doityourselfrv.com/rv-wa...re-regulators/)

Thanks, again...though we plan to usually use the freshwater tank, I'll keep this in mind for the future.

No magic. It simply adds the hose and its fittings to the "zone of protection". Some campgrounds have very high water pressure. They usually have signs at the check-in desk - but not always.

Bill,

That makes sense.

John,
I suggest that you use Flex Seal to repair the rip in your bag seal. I refurbished mine in April of 2019 and more than 2 years later it shows no sign of deteriorating. Here's a link to the thread I posted it to. See my October 4, 2019 post.

Another good suggestion...thanks. I won't have the TM open again until late July, but I'm sure one of these ideas will suffice.
