Default Need to replace 15-inch rims

Question what are the specs on the rims?

I read here (I thought) some time ago of someone upgrading the rims to a higher psi rating.

I have a rim that is very out of balance, to the point the shop said I should replace it. I get a lot of vibration at the stove location.

So if I need to replace why not upgrade?

Any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks

I would get a 15x6" rim rated for at least 2,000 lbs (15x5s are usually rated lower).

In addition, rims are often rated by the air pressure they can carry. Of course, the rim must be rated at least as high as the pressure you plan to put in the tire. 15" tires are commonly (but not always) Load Range-D, and LR-D tires are usually rated to carry 65 psi. So your rim should be rated for at least 65 psi. Some folks go to Load Range E tires, which can be rated at 80 psi. In either case, you should be sure that the tire jockey installs a new metal valve stem, rather than the rubber stem that may have been pre-installed in the rim.

As Padgett noted, tires for TMs are usually spec'ed to be mounted on 15X6 rims. Some of them can also be mounted on a 7" rim, but that is too wide for the TM's wheel well. The five lug wheels on most TMs have a bolt spacing called "5 on 4 1/2", and have a zero offset.

Just a bit more: Dexter 3500lb rated axles have a 5x4.5 (Ford) bolt pattern. The 5000lb axles should have a 6 lug wheel.

I don't want to cause confusion here, but I have a 3500 LB axle with the six lug nut bolt patterned wheels. Somewhere they've made a change with the TM's.

Dexter will build anything a customer wants. Can also get a 5k axle with 5x4.5 rims.

In fact if you send the serial number info to Dexter, they will tell you exactly how the axle was built.

Must admit surprise to see a 2619 with a six lug wheel. Then again if in the midst of the sale/move anything could have happened.

How do you know it is a 3500-pound axle, as opposed to a 5000-pound axle?

Suspect they were building a 2619, went to the axle pallet, and were only 6 bolt. Rather than hold up the build they used what they had.
(have seen stranger things happen).

With the 3500 lb axle you can order either a 5 or 6 lug brake drum from dexter. Even when you replace your drums you can change the number of lugs. But you need different wheels. If I was doing a brake job at the same time I was changing from 14" to 15", I would go to 6 lug drums. The 6 lug is nice because you can get stronger wheels and a larger selection of wheels.

Bill, one of the things I did when I got my camper was to take pics of all the data plates or info tags on it. I didn't get to the axle right away, but the item came up in this forum and I figured knowing what version of axle would be a good thing, so I crawled under the rig and the decal was still readable, so I snapped a picture of it. I have the serial number as well as knowing what weight it is.
