Default Rear view wireless camera

I saw an ad for a wireless camera. I was thinking of using that on the read of the TrailManor instead of the mirrors. The camera and display is about $100.00. Anyone tried this?

Thanks

The DW and I attended a Home Show at the Jacksonville, Fl. convention center this last weekend. During a new gadget demo by Dr. Gadget he showed a great new product which cost but $99 at Walmart. It is a wireless back-up camera system. The camera mounts to the license plate (which is wired to the back-up light of your TV) with the monitor on your dashboard. I installed it on my TV and now can see the ball (in full color) to allow me to hitch up without any assistance. The camera is intended to be a Kid Alert when backing but is perfect for hitching too. It is made by Virtual Reality Video Labs and can be found in the Car Radio section at Walmart.

Joe and John -

Both great ideas. Technology has come quite a ways since Jim Beletti started this thread.

Question for both of you. How do you power the camera? Does either one take batteries? Otherwise you will need to bring 12-volt power to it from somewhere. Not a big deal in a 2720 - I'm not sure about a 3023.

Maybe you could tap into the tail lights and just run with them on (not a bad idea any way) - or turn them on when you want to look behind the trailer.

Perfect solution, Jim. I'm embarrassed I didn't think of it.

Default Wireless camera and monitor.

Great idea for the hitch. Always a problem hooking up the Trailmanor when alone.

I need to visit PEP Boys Automotive and see if the $100.00 wireless camera signal will reach my truck cab from the rear of the Trailmanor. The distance will be about 35 feet . Then there is all that metal between the TV cab and the rear of the TM.

I'm not sure but I think that the wireless cameras operate on a battery. If not, the rear tail lights are a good option.

Would you plan to buy two cameras (one for the hitch and one for looking the trailer), or can you rig up some kind of removable mounting bracket so that you can move the camera from one location to the other?

Looking forward to hearing some results!

Default Wireless camera and monitor

Bill,
Two cameras would be ideal, but, then there is the problem of determining which one displays on the monitor. Probably look into using velcro and use one camera that is relocatable.

Need to check out the product first....

The VR3 wireless camera has a limited range. I don't think it will work for any TV-TM combination. The shortest TM is 19'.
