Hey All,

I remember that in the boondocking thread there was talk of using CPAP machines, etc. I was wondering where folks put their machines for use? We went camping this past weekend and I had to opt for not using my machine because I couldn't figure out where would be a good place to put it. Also, if you do take your machine which ac outlet do you plug yours into? Do you use an extension cord?

WHAT IS A CPAP MACHINE?

Sorry, a CPAP is a Constant Positive Airway Pressure machine used to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea, where one stops breathing at night while they sleep. The machine keeps the airway open and thus keeps us alive. OSA affects about 4% of the population.

To run your cpap apparatus while boondocking, you could use an inverter of the proper size. I wouldn't think it would draw much battery. Also, you asked about using an extenion cord for reaching the rear bed, Radio shack has extension cords for that extend the lengthen the reach from your inverter/ and or 12 volt receptacle. To do away with the longer extension cord, you could install either a 12 volt receptacle or a 110 volt receptacle back near your bed. We installed both. The 110 volt receptacle is located at the edge of the rear closet, near the folding bathroom wall. The 12 volt receptacle can be installed wherever you find a flat surface in the rear.

It's obviously a function of the foul-language prevention program installed on this site. Chris must not have been able to remove it completely.

My wife uses a CPAP. I cut a board that fits across the tub and we set it on that. We plug it in using the bathroom receptacle.

From experience, it draws ALOT off the battery. We had an inverter added in so we could use it, but she can't go the entire night with it running and not draining the battery. We tried it once and it died. Of course, then we didn't have enough juice to start the propane generator!

I have been thinking about adding a second set of batteries to prolong battery life so we can boondock. She can't go the night without using it.

The dealer I talked to suggested putting the 2nd set under the couch in the 3023. I'm a little concerned about battery venting there, though. There isn't any room on the tongue with 2 6-volt batteries, the 30 lb propane tanks and the generator.

Any suggestions?
