Hi Tim,

Yeah, I live in Florida, it rains almost every day in the summer time. And I at some point might have to travel in the rain... but I learned a lot from you posts about what I would want out of a system... Thank you.

a) I wiped the camera on the Jeep with silicon seal and have not had any problem with water inside.
b) Think for the TM having it on continuous is a good idea so will probably power from taillights and leave them on while driving. Is a good idea anyway & can see if running continuous is a problem.

I am also looking into a rear view system. Lane changes in busy traffic aren't fun. I can see down the sides of the TM just fine, but I want to know where my rear end is. It's back there somewhere.

I've seen cameras mounted high on the shell and low on the bumper. I am leaning for the high option to get the bird's eye view, but would like to hear thoughts from actual users.

I chose the rooftop mount to get the " bird's eye view" you mentioned. I also thought that location was safer from theft or vandalism. If I were to pick another location, I might choose the license plate mount as my choice and power the camera with the tail lights.

I think that higher is better if you plan to use it after dusk. In an earlier (much earlier) discussion, an owner said that the headlights of the car behind him blinded his camera. If you are always parked by dusk, this consideration doesn't come into play, of course.

Dave99gst,

Thank you for your information. I like your system the best so far and I'm on the verge of ordering it. I was wondering if the wireless adaptor has to be protected from the rain. I don't see it in your picture, is it hidden in the bumper? I was planning to mount the camera on the TM rear roof because some have said that at night the headlights of cars behind you will blind the camera...so I am not sure of a good way to protect the wireless transmitter from the road abuse and elements up there, or how to secure it so it doesn't flop around. Do you have any thoughts?

Thank you,
Trudy

The taillights would only work when they are on. Great spot for a backup camera.

Tent Camper,

Thanks for the feedback. My main objective with the camera is to know what's behind me when I am driving down the highway, so I will need to wire into something that is on when the TV is moving, not just in reverse. If it helps me to back up, too, that would be a nice side benefit. I am thinking about wiring in to the running lights, and I just would have to make sure I turned my lights on when I am traveling... I would love to hear any more thoughts that you have on the subject.

Thanks,
Trudy
