You are correct in that the jack should not ONLY be powered by the plug. I had not thought of that possibility. Mine is powered either way - I can run off the TM battery OR by the TV battery through the plug.

There are two advantages of using the TV powered plug for the jack. One, some like myself usually turn off the TM battery while shut down in order to save any battery drain; thus, the TM battery will not be available for use on the jack prior to TM setup. Two, use of the TV battery, while the TV's motor is still running, allows the TM battery to retain its charge for use later while camping - especially advantageous when camping without shore power.

Jim -

Do you travel with the TM battery turned off? If so, bad idea, since the TM's emergency (break-away) brake circuit depends on it.

Good advice Bill. I knew there was a reason to not turn off the TM battery while towing but could not think of it immediately.

Also one's lights may not work on the TM.
My dealer put a cut off switch right by my battery- very handy.

Ummm, as long as the TM is plugged into the tow vehicle, everything should work, including all lights. Interior lights, running lights, and so forth. The problem comes when/if the TM comes uncoupled from the tow vehicle, runs off by itself, and the Bargman puills out of the socket. NOW it depends on the TM battery to activate the brakes, and prevent a tragedy.

Or am I missing your meaning?

Bill

Thanks Bill. I didn't know that! I think that I have read that some have installed the cut off switch on the TM's exterior but never gave it much thought as to the reason why.
