Bill, Thanks for the link. I have looked b4 but, obviously, in the wrong spot. That filled in the blanks

The left side wires are ripped out so there is another project for me. Just what I wanted.

Pop, I'm not as fast as you. Took maybe 30 minutes. I'll blame my nearly new hip. I don't get up and down as good as I used to. Plus I'm a tad older!

TC, I'm down with the knee pads. A real winner. I use them every time I have a "knee" job to do

Concerning sore knees, I have found my construction worker's knee pads with velcro straps on the back really helpful.

We carry an old boat cushion for lowering the stabilizers or kneeling to change tires.

fwiw, my daughter (32) says she could change the tire, but probably not as fast as I can. She has changed a tire before, but that was on a car.

I'm not sure my wife could change a tire on anything, but don't tell her I sad that.

In my case we had called AAA, but it was a Friday afternoon of a 3 day weekend between Sacramento and Reno. The estimated wait time for a tire change was 2 hours.

Two hours...I can see why you didn't want to wait. The only time I had to wait that long for an AAA service what when my daughter, now 38, reversed some instructions I had given her.

I had bought her a 5 speed Sentra to drive to college. She wanted to drive to Bakersfield to see some friends. I told her NOT to use 5th gear driving over the ridge route on I-5. Somehow she turned that around to the idea that she MUST use 5th over the hills.

The clutch gave out about 100 miles from our town in Orange County. AAA membership took care of it.

More to the point of this thread, has anyone been saved from plumbing damage in a tire separation/blowout by a thick mudflap?? That one is within my skill level with hand tools.

Tom

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Speckul8r, but congratulations on your cage saving your plumbing. I have had mud flaps for some time now and always thought if everything went well they might work. But I knew it would depend on how long and where the rubber flapped and if and how it came off the tire. I gave them at best a 50% chance of saving my plumbing. YogiCorgi had some success with his Blowout-Absorbing Mud Flaps.

It always seemed to me that the amount of force exerted by this flying rubber would be enormous. Last week I built a cage using only hand tools. I didn't trust it 100% before this post. After reading it I now just hope I built mine STOUT enough. I got my information on building it from the post below if anyone else is interested.

FWIW The wire to the drivers side magnet were ripped out so I had the fun of splicing them back together today. Time for a beer or 3.
