Smile Steel Valve Stems

I have a 2006 3124 with 15 inch tires. I just bought 3 new GOODYEAR Marathons ST225/75R-15 from my local GOODYEAR dealer. I asked for steel stems but what I got was a rubber stem with a metal sleeve inside it. He said that the standard steel stem that is carried by the GOODYEAR Service
Cener would not fit the wheels from the TM. I don't really know if this is true or not. It is my intention to add a TPMS using stem mount sensors. I don't know if the sleeves will work.

Where have the FORUM members purchased steel stems that will fit 2005 15 inch TM wheels?

Thanks for any help you can lend,

Jay

My regular tire guy put them on for me. Both on the stock wheels and when I moved up to the 15 inchers. So it is demonstrably false that you cannot get them for those wheels. Maybe it's true that the "standard steel stem carried by Goodyear won't", my tire guy is an independent dealer.

We purchased new 15" tires after installing the lift kit and after much searching found a tire shop to install what we wanted. We had TR-416 valve stems installed by a Merchant Tire guy north of D.C. It took ALOT of calls to find someone who would order and install what we wanted.

Jay, I am trying to understand this. When you say it has a sleeve "inside" it, do you actually mean it has a chrome sleeve on the "outside" of the stem? See pic below

All rubber stems have a brass interior, but this is not what will support your exterior add-on tpms sensor.

I think you may be talking about a TR600HP stem, which is a combination of brass and rubber.

Check out this forum link, and posts 31 and 33 to see. Read post 39 especially if you use a tire shop that doesn't seem to have much experience with them, to make sure they install them correctly.

Posts 37 and 38 tell a few places where members purchased the stems.

I am actually embarrassed and amazed at the total lack of knowledge at many of my fellow tire businesses. The poor lack of training really shines at some.

In 2010 I had metal stems installed at the time I bought two new Marathons at the Goodyear dealer in Buena Park, CA.

Thanks Bobby and every one else.

After reviewing the post that you suggested I know that I have TR_600HP stems installed. I have printed the post to take with me to have some TR_416B's installed.

Thanks for taking the time to give such a detailed explanation.

Ours came from TM with the brass/rubber stems and so far they have survived the trip in and out to the highway from the house. Our dirt track is not rubber stem friendly. Some times it isn't tire friendly, we have seen a few sidewalls ripped out.
