These axles do have a distinct camber that is supposed to flatten out with the load making the tires perpendicular to the road surface. So, yes, if your load is a lot less than the axle rating you could get excess outside edge wear on both tires. Sounds like 4400# would be a closer fit to your loads.

Two things on your Alaska trip one: if you see a diver down flag at the edge of the pavement that means slow way down real quick 'cause the road is really bad.
Two: You might want to pick up a milepost, it was real handy. We ran our trip backwards form the suggested to miss all the going up traffic.
