Could you, perhaps, relocate the microwave to the top, or bottom, of that stack of drawers, and put the bin elsewhere? You could put the bin on the counter, and then move it to, say, the couch or bed when cooking, and back when not?

I have to agree with the above posters: putting anything in front of the door is probably a bad idea.

As to the microwave on the shelf: I can attest that I have seen no ill effects on my wardrobe as a result of this mod. I have never felt a risk of collapse, either. Plus, the height of that shelf is 100% adjustable, so you can always make it shorter if you wanted.

Heck, you could put the microwave in the pit, and put the drawer units on a lower shelf if you didn't want to put them directly on top of the microwave -- although I would just do that and call it a day. It's not like the outside of the micro gets hot when in use.

Please give the link for the extension
Thanks from Chile

This: http://www.amazon.com/REDITOP-SNLRED...dp/B00GJY7HUC/

I got it on sale off woot.com for significantly cheaper than list. It's OOS at Amazon, so you might need to shop around a bit to find it.
