OK if in the mountains a lot or do not care about $4k-$8k extra the diesel is you best choice. OTOH the Grand Cherokee with the Pentastar is a lot less expensive, weighs less, and has a 6400 lb rating with the factory towing package.

My '12 GC with the 5speed tows my 2720SL at 65-70 effortlessly. Tractive effort is very similar just the gas engine winds higher. I get 17-18 when towing and the new ones are better.

The airflow over the GC to the TM is very good. I suspect that unless a camper shell is added to the Ram it might have a bit more drag.

When I got my Jeep diesel, it had highway tires. I got 35 mpg when driving 65, and 30+ when driving 75 (both sans trailer). When the highway tires wore out, I replaced with all-terrain tires, and mileage dropped about 10%.

So, when discussing mileage, keep in mind that tires play a role in mileage, also.

Very true, condition of vehicle, driving conditions, driving style/habits will contribute more to fuel economy than you want to believe.
