Default Re:Toilet Gauge

Bruce - You have cleaned and lubed the spiral shaft in the center. How about the side shafts? I have still not taken a float assembly apart, but the picture on the Thetford web site suggests that the float rides up and down on a pair of side shafts. These prevent the float itself from turning, thus forcing the spiral shaft to turn.

If the side shafts are corroded, grubby, or (more likely) slightly bent, then the float will bind as it tries to ride up and down those shafts.

Bill, I might have read something specific about bleach on this site, but for the heck of it, I have the original owners manual on mine which states under the "Holding Tank Hints" section, last two sentances, "CAUTION: Do not use household detergents or cleaning compounds. They may contain chemicals that would damage the plastic drain system or termination valve seals". I knew I had read something like that somewhere..........hope this helps.....
