Default Silly Question

Thanks too all that responded. It was a great discussion.
I will err on the side of caution and give the open length be cause I wouldn't want to have to try squeezing into a smaller space. Just spoke with our first campground who had me listed for 26' and had them change it to a 33'. Luckilly the site is good for 35'.
Thanks again

For some parks such as Yellowstone, your choice of TT or pup will determine your eligibility for certain campgrounds

For my 2720SL. I answer "Collapsible hard side, 27 feet." The campground owners always assume that I have a Hi-Lo, which they are familiar with, and I've found no reason to correct them. This tends to get us a slightly bigger site, since the rear of the TM can almost always clear the parking blocks/rocks/stumps or whatever is at the back of the site, allowing me to push the TM deeper into the site than was intended.

Hey, whatever works.

I camp in a lot of isolated primitive campgrounds that were built during th 60's for car campers.

I usually give the closed length and and say that it is a popup or a hybrid. I have 3124KS. The front shell and the front slide do not extend past the tongue so I don't gain any length there. The rear sheel and the bed extend a little over 3 feet so my total length set up is 27 feet. The 3 feet is so high up that I have never had to worry about it.

The sites in these camgrounds are very far apart so you don't have to worry so much about hitting the guy camping next to you.

The only rule that I have found that the campgrounds really do enforce is "wheels on the pavement, tongue out of the road." You have to have all of the wheels of your camper and tow vehicle on the pad. No part of the tongue or tow vehicle can extend into the road. If I can make it fit then they seem to be happy.

I don't know how they would feel about dropping a stabilzer jack onto the dirt, that has never come up.

I only had a problem with length once, and oddly enough the site was listed as being OK for a 28 foot trailer. Sure enough the trailer fit perfectly but the site was much too narrow to fit the truck alongside. There was no overflow parking. I offered to buy a second site to park the truck. Sites were $15 a night and there weren't a lot of people there. The host and ranger were very nice about it and let me park the truck in an unoccupied site for free.

When we first purchased ours we tried to explain to every camp ground what we have but that was just too complicated & time consuming since many didn't accept any tent material since we camp in mountains allot.

So now being seasoned we usually just say 30' Travel Trailer unless a camp ground ask more specific question because anytime we have ever said TM it ends up being a what is that scenario.

In all actuality it isn't really 30' though I guess, but that usually gets us a nice big site which is what we prefer even if it cost a little extra.

I figured it was pretty obvious that if you say the open size you will fit no problem. My point is by doing that you are also limiting your self and perhaps losing out on sites you could have fit on and may have prefered.
