Default Wheel Throwing Grease

Replaced grease per instructions before last trip. Door side wheel had grease on it after 75 miles. Not great amounts .Monitored hub temps with infared temp gun and never ran more than 125 degrees. Ran from Texas to WV,VA,NC and back with no problems. Added grease each night to be safe. My question is did I add too much initially before I left and it was throwing the excess(along with the excess of new grease I added)? No problems with street side wheel and temps were usually the same when checked. Or is another issue? Any thoughts??

My hubs are also doing this (throwing grease) since I lubed them this past spring. Not a huge quantity, just some grease spots spun out around the rim (perhaps more is hitting the road, not the rim, I don't know). Only a couple trips of 500 miles each. I monitor temp as I go also. I added some more grease the other day (I have used #2 Lithium per Bill's tutorial) and each wheel did take most of a small cartridge. I don't think I put too much in, only til it was showing new grease (wiped off the old grease as I injected new). I am going 250 miles roundtrip soon and will check it again. The hub covers were in tight when I removed them to add grease but somehow it is getting out to the wheel rims. I am planning on having the bearings replaced soon anyway as I suspect the previous owner let the TM sit for extended periods, which I understand is bad for bearings.

I found another thread where this was discussed and possible solutions offered. Might be a slightly bent or slightly dirty hub lip letting grease get by to the outer world. That could make sense in my situation.

The dust cover was my problem. Not the rubber insert. Took it off and installed a new 1 (<$5), problem solved.
