Default 2006 Model 2619 Draining the fresh water tank

I just purchased my used TrailManor and have it in the back yard set up so I can become familiar with it before heading out for our first adventure next weekend. I decided to sanitize the 20 gallon fresh water tank and plumbing system using chlorine as suggested in the TM owners manual.

After filling the tank and letting it sit for the requisite time I went to drain the tank by opening the valve at the end of the tube extending down beneath the tank under the camper. Alas nothing came out! It would only empty when I started the water pump. This surprised me as I thought that gravity would do the job. Can anyone enlighten me on how the emptying of the fresh water tank is supposed to work?

Thanks!

Did you open the faucets? Without faucets open, there is no way for the water to drain quickly.

Be sure to open both hot and cold faucets, sink and shower. Open all the drains (should be 3, if it is like my 2417).

If you're just trying to empty the main tank (the valve on the soft hose, in front of the wheel, as opposed to the valve on the PVC-looking pipe) you shouldn't need to open faucets. The fresh water tank has an overflow hose that will not allow a vacuum to form under normal conditions. If that valve isn't draining, I'd wonder if there were some sediment/crud blocking it up. If that valve started draining when (and only when) you turn on the pump, then something is wrong. I can understand the other valve (coming from the pipe, hot water tank) not draining until the pump is on, because you may not have had any water in the hot water tank until you pumped some in ... and then out the drain!

I think I'd like some more information/details. A pic of which drain you're opening would help as well.

Default Additional info and photo-fresh water tank 2006-2619

I am aware of the need to keep faucets open when attempting to drain the freshwater tank and did so before attempting to empty it with the pump.

When I turned on the pump water shot through the white longer tube beneath the carriage. I still haven't figured what the other tube on the left is for.

Unfortunately when I attempted to upload the photo I was asked to provide a URL where it is located. I have the photo residing in the TrailManor folder on my computer and I don't know how to get it into this forum.

Basically the photo shows two tubes extending down from the driver's side of the undercarriage in front of the wheel with stopcocks on each one. The one on the left (most forward) is white and of slightly larger diameter than the black one one located about 5" back towards the wheel.

Thanks for your responses and I look forward to further guidance. Also would appreciate assistance on how to post photos on the forum.

I put up a plumbing diagram in one of my albums. It might help the discussion.

The two drains utilize different valve types. The white tube is the hot water drain and that valve operates by a quarter turn counter clockwise. The other tube is the fresh water tank drain and the valve operates like a typical garden hose faucet - needs to be turned counter clockwise several turns to fully open.
