Default Ram 1500

We're planning on getting a RAM 1500 and have decided we want a Trail Manor. My next question is if we need special hitch or shocks or whatnot to tow one? What do you tow yours with?

I have a 2016 Ram 1500 Quad cab, 5.7 engine. I made sure it had a tow package, I upgraded to powered folding tow mirrors from Infotainment. It was pricy, but those folding mirrors have saved me a few times, so for me. They're worth the costs. I don't use a weight distribution hitch. I've never had swaying issues, but if I did, I would add it. Besides having enough power and torque to tow any trailer, make sure your tow vehicle can stop your camper in an emergency. Don't buy a tow vehicle that just meets yer towing needs. We all over pack, if you exceed your tow vehicle limits, you could be out of luck in your insurance covering repairs or the warranty repairs. Just read about a guys frame cracking because he didn't do his research and listened to dealership. He's facing $17K out of pocket costs to fix the truck.
This site and the good folks on it are happy to help answer yer questions. Browse the other sections within the forum, lots of great info. Braking questions, how much weight
What every you get, add that info to your signature block. Saves folks from having to ask which model, version, or mods accomplished. Sorry for a way too long answer. Again, good luck.

Since I mentioned this in my earlier post. Here's a link to the truck frame cracking.

I tow a TM 3326 with a 2017 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel (3.0 V6 Diesel) Laramie Crew Cab (non-airbag suspension, 3.92 gears). I added the OEM brake controller and like Kidkraz I added the power fold tow mirrors. Both are highly recommended, and the brake controller is a MUST. I’ve had issues with the power fold mirrors though. I’m about to have the driver side mirror warrantied for the third time in less than 5 years because the power fold doesn’t work unless you give it a little extra push. As for WDH I use the Andersen No Sway WDH. Does the Ram NEED it? Probably not. But it goes a helluva lot smoother with it.

Long story short unless you go with the Pentastar 3.6 V6 engine, the Ram will be more than plenty of truck for any TrailManor.

Good! We are going to look at a RAM 1500 Big Horn. My husband was wondering about the 3.21 rear axel ratio which is lower than some, 5.7 V8 some sort of etorque...and some sort of tow package. I really do appreciate the info I've gotten here. And there is that TMs can be towed with some SUVs makes me think as you say 3.6 v6 isn't enough and we should be fine. I'll keep you all posted.

I only say that about the 3.6 because they feel underpowered WITHOUT a trailer behind them. As for the 3.21, that should be more than fine with the eTorque.

Tow package; Yeah try to get at least the OEM brake controller, and the tow mirrors if you can get them. Mirrors are easy enough to upgrade if you can’t find a truck with tow mirrors.

What size TM do you have in mind?

No more than a 27, due to storage. We are test driving now! Has a hitch, the break controls...

You’ll probably forget it’s even there. I have a project 2720 that I tow without a WDH and the truck doesn’t miss a beat.

My Ram has the 3.21 axle, and I've had zero issues when towing. I forgot to add the anti-slip differential when I ordered the truck, but that's not been an issue either.
