Default DIY Bed Support Sliders

Figured I'd share my latest project......Replacing the cracked and broken bed support slides. If you're like me, you have more time than money, so did some research and decided to make my own. If you go on Grainger's site and look up item 1ZAK3, you can buy HDPE (High density Polyethylene) sheet stock, and customize the size sheet you want. I bought a 48"x12"x .125" (1/8) sheet for $24 delivered and cut my own sliders. I had enough to make all eight sliders, and enough left over for three more down the road. The material is thicker so should hold up a little better over time. I made the cuts using a utility knife and a straight edge. I also drilled the screw holes a little bigger than the screw diameter so I had some adjustability when installing, as some of my mounting screws were installed at an angle, causing the slider to bow out.

I've learned alot from this forum and want to give back. Enjoy! :

Nice work! Just one comment. In your final photo, it looks like the nylock nut has been snugged up. This is not correct - they should be backed off a bit so that the bolt is loose in the track. Their purpose is simply to retain the bolt, preventing it from jumping out - not to secure it. With a bit of slack, everything can ride smoothly over any humps, bumps, and lumps. Commodor47 has a couple good pix in his album

Actually, it looks like the bolt on the far side is missing?

Bill,
There is play left in the bolt. In the last pic, the other side hasnt been done yet. Pretty easy job really, just a little tedious cutting the strips.

Why didn't the use something like aluminum strips originally instead of the polyethylene? Seems that a metal strip would have been stronger.
