Default Crack in rear bumper storage area

The rear bumper storage area on my 3023 has a sort of plastic "tub" attached at each end. The front facing part of this thing is also plastic. Well, I hung mine on a dirt bank while backing up, and I put a crack in it.

The material looks like PVC pipe material, and is maybe 3/16" or 1/4" thick. I don't intend to replace it right now, but I would like to put some kind of sealer in the crack so it won't get worse, or leak water when I drive through rain.

Any suggestions on what to use?

If it were ours I'd stop drill the crack and maybe add a piece of aluminum across the crack as bracing and let it go at that. Both of ours have a gap between the cap and frame so it leaks anyway.

Even in their original state, due to their design, they ate far from being water tight.
I would caulk it more for cosmetic reasons and plus it would make me feel better if I had done it...which is always a possibility.

If it's PVC, you could also repair it using the method described here earlier for the gray water tank. You might also just glue (using PVC cement) a flat piece of PVC over crack....I haven't seen one of those bumpers up close, so I don't know what exactly they look like.

I agree with ScrubJay - stop-drilling the ends of the crack must be your first step.

Default Great glue/sealant

Hello, I've been using this Goop product for awhile now, and it works great. I like it mainly because not only does it bonds/seals great, but it stays somewhat flexible. I think it would work well on your crack after you drill holes at each end of the crack. I found it at True Value Hardware, but I'm guessing it's sold at all hardware stores. Here's what it looks like: http://www.eclecticproducts.com/rv.htm

Sounds like something handy to have in the TM tool box for "just in case".

Thanks, JoePK.
