Default Really Set On A Trailmanor

After years of looking, my beautiful wife and I have decided on a Trailmanor (used) 2720. All the literature suggests my V6 SUV Ford Edge wil move it with ease. In reading the forums, there seems to be some question the Edge can do the job. I would appreciate any suggestions the "forum" can give us.
Thank you:

It would be nice if there were a single guaranteed-correct answer. But there isn't. If you've been looking through theTowing Rigs forum, you have seen that two initial questions must be answered.

As always, the first question is "Where will you tow?" Believe it or not, it makes a difference.

The second question is "Does the vehicle have a factory-installed tow package?" In many cases, including the Edge, the tow rating is valid only if the vehicle has the factory tow package. I don't know the model year of your Edge, but without the package, the tow rating is probably only 2000 pounds, which isn't even close. Even in the best case, the rating on the Edge is 3500 pounds, which many of us consider kind of marginal.

What year is your Edge? For 2011, check
http://www.ford.com/resources/ford/g..._EdgeNov18.pdf
But the same document is available for other years.

When you get your TM consider joining the Trailblazers. A great way to meet other TM owners. You would be a member of the Dixie Chapter since you hale from the great state of Florida.

in my opionion, the Edge is not sufficient for towing a TM 2720. The max rating is only 3500lbs. That is right at the limit for the TM. Tongue weight would be a very strong concern for me as well.

Default Towing A TM 2720 With a Ford Edge/ Towing Package

Thankl you for your response. The Edge is a 2008 with the Ford installed towing package. The TM group sounds great. Now all we need is the TM.

Marginal at best. And to get that capacity, you probably can't be carrying any passengers or cargo -- going camping by yourself and not taking any gear?

Dry 2720s are ~2750 lbs dry, but that also supposedly doesn't include many accessories that are often standard, like awning, A/C, batteries, maybe the spare tire, etc. In any event, real world weights of 2720s packed for a weekend of camping as reported here on the forum are 3,500 to 4,000 lbs. So not only will you have zero margin of error, it's likely you'll be overweight.

I wouldn't do it.

Dave

Is it a full towing package ( trans cooler, HD alt, and larger brakes or is it just a hitch and some wiring? What class is the hitch? As others have said even if you have the full tow package and you only tow in Fla ( no hills) you will not enjoy the trip and should any emergency arise( someone pulls out in front of you) it will ruin your trip. We would love to have you both in the TM family, but only if you are happy, safe and around a long time. Just an FYI, i'll bet your ford Edge doesn't get the mileage the manufacturer stated in their advertising.

I agree. Marginal at best. You may wind up in britton hill in Waldron county Florida and hit that 345 feet altitude. Kidding aside. We live in Florida also which is flat. But we don't always stay in Florida and that has to be a consideration

Default Towing package

Actually it is the full Ford towing package. With all the extra Ford towing goodies. I do have a question. Does the TM come equipted with trailer brakes or do I have to add them as an accessory. Also, I understand with a Ford leveler, I can greatly reduce the tongue weight of the TM on my hitch. As you see, I am doing my best to make this work since we have looked long and hard for a travel trailer we can love. By the way, thank you all for your wonderfuyl suggestions.

The trailmanor has electric brakes. That means you will need a brake controller
