Default Bag seal material found possibly

I took a small piece of the bag seal material to a fabric store that does a lot of rv stuff, they found this in the back, I bought a yard of it 10 bucks per yd.

I am going to leave it out in the heat , put some in the freezer, it is waterproof, very pliable. Looks promising, I think one could buy enough for about 30 bucks to do the bag seals.

Had this in the freezer now a couple of hours , still pliable / flexible . I tried to rip it apart I could not, I had to finally rub it across some jagged metal more than a few times to get it to rip as I wanted to see how strong and what kind of or if any fibers were inside like the oem. Well there are fibers and plenty strong. I am going to do it.

The original stuff does not keep water out of the foam and is worn in more than a few places. So now to grab about 3 more yards. I will have left overs I know

Default Bag seal material

As info, when we purchased our very used 2002 3124 last summer I needed to replace the flaps around the rear bed. Found the same material used by tm which was a marine grade vinyl. The better versions of this type of material are available by a company called Sailrite. You can also find the same thing on ebay for around the price scrubjaynest mentioned. Lesser quality vinyl doesn't hold up so well so be sure to use the marine grade vinyl. Interestingly Sailrite is a source for the curtain strips and also the curtain mounts that go on the walls as well a lot of marine grade toggle bolts etc that can be used in tms. Mrs goosecreeklarry

Craig,

Did the folks who gave you the material have any part number or manufacturer info in it? Hope that it passes your tests to be a good sub to use with the TM.

No part number, I have them chking to see if it is UV treated, it is Fire retardant however, they think it is UV treated but going to chk with the supplier.

He mentioned a couple of suppliers , one was value vinyl, and cant remember the other one.
He is going to call me back tomorrow. SO far it is great in cold temps, I have it under a heat lamp now set at 120* so far so good holds shape no melt not even close to melt stage. lol Only thing that would stop me now is the UV treated , I know I can put a UV treatment on it every month but who wants to do that. So I hope he calls with good news. This also comes in a 61" width so 3 yards will make a lot of bag seals for about 37 bucks total

Forgot to mention, this is 18.5 oz weight , so it is not a flimsy piece of pvc vinyl

I stopped by Hobby Lobby recently and they had some vinyl fabric rated for UV outdoors/marine use for $30 per yard if I recall correctly. The roll is 56" wide, so I figured one yard is enough to do the whole seal at the rear roof area, IF I don't mind overlapping 2 pieces across the top of the RV.

I figured 4 strips maximum of 7"x56": two 56" strips along the top overlapping and 1 strip down each side less than 56".

The stuff I am looking into is 61" wide, but I just am not sure about overlaping and having water get in between the two pieces.

Good point about water getting in a seam. But, if one folded-over the overlap, and "glued" the overlap with a flexible silicone (or better material for that) before folding, it should be watertight. Would not want water sitting inside the bag seal.

My wife has a sewing machine, maybe sewed together folded and sealed hmmm, I have a yard, I think I will cut it today and sew it as she has v69 thread and uv treated even for outdoor use.

cut a couple pieces of the material 7 1/2 " wide and will be sewn at 7 1/2 ' long

then was sewed, sealed, folded sewed again an sealed with seam sealer.

I did the sewing not the wife so the crooked stitches are all me. but it will work, hey it was my first time sewing . lol
Going to use this for the rear outer shell top seal. and coating it with 303 areospace UV protectant.

If anyone wants to purchase a couple of pieces this size I will sell it for $5.00 plus shipping for a 7 1/2 " wide and 7 1/2 ' long I can sew it or you can sew it. sewing will be extra $ 4.00 Sewed stitches will be straighter
