Any ideas on propane tanks??

I am having harder and harder time in finding filling stations for the propane tanks on my TM. It looks like there is a definite monopoly of tank-exchange. However, as we al know TM has its own two tanks that are attached to the RV.
Anyone has a good idea or solutions?

I just remove the empty tank from the TM, take it to a nearby hardware store that refills propane tanks, then replace the tank on the trailer. We have two 20# tanks, and it only takes a few minutes to remove and reinstall a tank on the trailer.

In my area the U-haul rental sites have propane. Other equipment rental houses and one hardware store in the area also re-fill propane tanks - either loose or attached to the TM.

There are several gas stations near me that will refill propane tanks, but their minimum purchase is larger than my tank capacity, so I have to pay for propane that I do not receive.

If I go to UHaul then I pay for the quantity that they put into my tank.

My two TM tanks are identical to the one for the home BBQ, so I sometimes rotate one of them, depending on where I need it.

Make sure if you remove the tanks, that they are filled in the correct position. On the 2619, no problem - fill tank standing upright. Some of the slide TM have horizontal tanks that are supposed to be filled horizontally. If you fill a horizontal tank in a vertical position, you may not get it full, or you may get it overfilled. Not all the kids that are doing the filling understand this.

You bring up an interesting question. The TMO manual I have refers to "Helpful Hints about LP-gas & LP containers" for Manchester Tank. Under "Caution, Use LP-gas tanks and cylinders in proper position" it states: ". . . all LP-gas tanks and cylinders designed for vapor service must be transported, installed and used in the proper position."

I assumed that also meant the horizontal tanks should be filled with the tank in the horizontal position. Yet there is a sticker on the tank wall that says to fill the tank in vertical position. Most propane dealers will fill the 20 lb tanks in the vertical position anyway -so that is not an issue. I have to go with the label on the horizontal tank when having it refilled.

Anyone else with the horizontal tanks have them refilled in the horizontal position?

In your case, the "proper position" is horizontal for use, vertical for filling. Incidentally, some of these horizontal tanks must be filled in the horizontal position, and have a label saying so. Always trust the labels!

Thanks Bill -appreciate the positive feedback. I don't like to mess with safety issues regarding propane.
