I have used the gravity method for years, and it works great. One thing to watch out for, though. If you lower the tongue too much, it is easy to pull the front shell up from its resting position. That's the good part. But once you get the shell halfway up and pass the balance point, the front will come charging forward toward you like a runaway train. I did this just once, and fortunately did not hurt either myself, or the TM when the shell slammed into the stops. Either could have happened very easily, and would have been very bad.
When you first try this approach, start by lowering the front just a bit, until you find the best starting position. This is probably what you meant when you said "play with it".
