Default Glue?

Ive read a few times on here that some people use regular plumming fittings from home depot, etc for the black water drains. What type of glue would I use to glue PVC fittings to the campers ABS fittings ?

Isn't the black pipe from Home Depot ABS? Assuming that's the case, I'd just use some acetone. It works just like PVC cement does on PVC -- it's a solvent, and softens the 2 pieces, and when the solvent evaporates, the 2 pieces become one.

I don't think you will be mating black pipe (ABS) to white pipe (PVC). It'll be black to black. The stub end of drain pipe that has the twist-on cap will have to come from an RV store, unless you can reuse yours.

I have in my hand, an 8 ounce can of "Oatey ABS Cement" from Home Depot. It's thick black stuff. I just re-glued some of the ABS black pipe fittings on my TM that didn't seem to have any glue on them.

Dry fit first to be sure you got it right, apply glue, assemble fast with a little twist at the end. Once its done, its done!

Dave -

If you end up doing a PVC-to-ABS transition, Oatey also makes two specific products for this use. One or the other or both should be on the shelf of your hardware store, alongside the PVC cement and the ABS cement.

One is a green cement, comes in a green-and-white can, and is called "transition cement". The other is milky-white, comes in a red-and-white can, and is called "all-purpose cement".

For more info, do a Google search (always a good first step, by the way) for "oatey pvc/abs".

Awsome ! sounds like no matter what way I go I should be covered pretty easy.

If they sell ABS pipe @ home depot, thats what ill go with for sure.

In addition to the "stud end" ill also need to be able to glue the flanges for the gate valves. Or get bends that have them already on it.
