Default How I installed the Anderson WD hitch on a 2720 SL with swing hitch.

After purchasing an '09 2720 SL, I weighed the toungue with no gear and decided on using a WD hitch, (524 pounds). The Swing Away hitch interfears with some of the brands of hitch and at the time, not much was posted about the Anderson. The spring bars were too short on my Blue Ox and the company just told me to buy a new one with out any serious conversation. I read articles on the Anderson and the more I read, the more I wanted one. I did some measuring and decided it would not fit, so I called Customer Service. I then had an email discusson with the rep, including pics and measurements and we both thought it would fit. It didn't. After more emails and pics, I came up with an idea to make it work and the CS rep said the mod would be no problem.

I had to buy 2 extra 5/6 (fits 5" & 6" frame) inside brackets, and 2, 3/8" Quick links for chain and 4, 5/8" x 5" grade 5 bolts (comes with 4").

First I drilled out the threads on the outside brackets with a 21/32 bit, then ground a little off the corner of the extra bracket so they could be doubled - see pics. With the brackets doubled, there is just enough clearance to adjust the hitch. On my frame, the right side is welded a little differently then the left and i also had to make a 1/4" spacer to sandwitch between the double plates. I know everybody doesn't have the tools to do this, so you would have to take the brackets to a metal shop for the drilling and grinding. The bolt hanging in the last pic is for the front slide so I put on a stop nut and hacksawed off the excess.

The quick links are used between the clevis and the 2nd chain link to make the chains a little longer. The manual shows the brackets at 27' to 29" (2" bracket") and I needed it to be at 28 1/2 and 30 1/2.

My first outing with the TM was yeaterday. 178 very enjoyable miles. No sway, no bounce except on an extremely rough bridge at 60 MPH. Towing with an F150, I could hardly feel the TM. Add another endorcement for the Anderson - well worth the extra work and money.
