Default Removing smoke smell

Hello, We just brough our Elkmont home yesterday, the previous owner was a smoker. The smell is not horrible at all, but it is slightly there. Has anyone else had to deal with this in a camper or else where and/or has anyone found a product that works well? Thanks in advance.

Once had the same problem with a vehicle that a heavy smoking salesman had driven for a few thousand miles and was given the advise to put a box of fresh grass clippings in the car. I figured what can I loose as this was cheap advice and easy to do without alot of elbow grease. Low and behold it did work and left a wonderfull smell behind. Hope it works for you but you might need a lot more clippings than I did due to the size of the TM compared to a car. Good luck.

Yes fresh grass clippings. Apparently it is a method also used to get the smell out of vehicles in which someone has passed away, but his is hearsay which I certainly would not want to confirm.

If you can find it we use a product by VaporTek to completely eliminate Smoke Odors. We have the machines but you can also get standalone cartridges.

We used to also use Ozone Machines although we now mainly use Vaporteks mostly.

I would wash everything or at least take it outside and air it in the sun. Curtains, mattresses, cushions. Also wipe down the walls, sprinkle baking soda in the carpeting and let it set then vacuum out. Smoke leaves a film on hard surfaces.
Then maybe the charcoal would help after you do all of that.

Wink

Also, after cleaning and airing, pour some ammonia in a dish, set it on the counter, close the doors and let that sit for a little while. That will pull some of the odor also.

Smoke Odor isn't just on surfaces also deeply penetrates any porous surface.

This is the main reason DIY remedies fail, There is more to odor removal than cleaning & you should never apply Sodium Bicarbonate aka Backing Soda to carpet. It can cause other issues trust me I have made lots of $$$$s in my 20yrs from Sodium Bicarbonate damage.

Airing out with powered ventilation can also help allot depending on the scope of damage. Smoke & pet odor are two very stubborn odors to 100% eliminate. One thing for sure trying to mask them with another odor is a temporary solution.

That is very interesting since I have been using Arm & Hammer carpet deodorizer on my carpets for years for pet odor. And have occassionally used pure baking soda also.

Motels use an ozonator, which is an ozone generator. I heard car dealerships also use them to remove smoke smell from cars.

I know some rental places have them to rent. I think it is an overnight process at motels.
