Will I need a WDH?

Your Traverse has a plug under dash (hidden ) but it is pre wired for brake control, plug and play style come with trail erring factory package.

I think Amazon had my P3 a bit cheaper, the key is to make sure you get the right plugin harness, the controller is the same for all vehicles.

Thanks! I just ordered from Amazon since I use them all the time I am more comfortable with it. Looks like it should be easy to install myself. Especially when I can save $90 over the dealer and get a better controller.

On our first fully loaded longer trip with our new (to us) TV I weighed the rig.

Results:

Steer Axle 4040

Drive Axle 5100

Trailer Axle 3220

Gross 12360

I used the WDH because I have a lot of weight on the rear axle: dogs, clothes, ammo and I am used to it and feel more secure.

While towing with a 3/4 ton rated vehicle one should not need a WDH, the TM by design puts more tongue weight on the ball to minimize sway and I like to transfer that weight to the front.

I did not use the same links as with the Pilot but it felt and drove very stable and smooth.

Just tried with the scale and rollers method and got 350-360 lbs tongue weight for my near-empty but open 2720SL with a 70 lb battery in the back and 1/2 tank of fresh water. (suspect a front battery would be ~100 lbs different but without the slide the trailer is lighter & closed the balance will be different...

That is way under my 500 lb tongue limit (actually the receiver is a class IV and a direct extension of the frame, iimit is for drivetrain, V8 is 7400 lbs max & uses the same receiver assembly).

My question is "Will a WDH (I assume this is aka load leveling hitch) reduce any tendancy to sway ?" YWTK

We don't use a WDH with our set up of a 2720SL using a Chevy Tahoe. We ordered the Tahoe with the tow package and we don't have any problem with sway. We did beefed up our suspension by adding air springs (I think that's what they are called). And we tow across county every other year in all sorts of weather.

I am looking into a WDH just for grins sake.

Tongue weight is a two-edged sword. Single axle TM's have, by design, a "weight forward" balance that causes them to be heavy on tongue weight, which dramatically helps in reducing sway. There have been some posts in this forum about the relatively new 2922 and sway, but with that as an exception, most TM's don't need any sort of sway control.

The other edge of the sword though is that it becomes relatively easy to exceed the tongue weight limits of the TV's hitch/receiver with a TM, which is usually pegged at 500 lbs for most vehicle manufacturer's installed receivers. Newer Class III/IV receivers may go has high as 750 lbs.

My 3124KS, fully loaded, with full propane bottles and no batteries mounted on the front of the trailer, comes in right at 600 lbs. This exceeds my F150 receiver capacity for the "undistributed" weight limit by 100 lbs., hence the need for a WDH. When I first bought my 3124KS in Arkansas and towed it back to Texas, I towed it without the WDH and it towed beautifully. Once I found out how heavy the tongue weight was, I did the safe thing.

We have a 3326 and we tow with a Toyota 4Runner with V8.

We find that the total rig handles better (including the WDH) than when driving solo.

Of course, with a larger rig and more weight it is a mute point about WDH but I think it is for better handling and safer driving, every person should in the TM family should use the WDH. I bet it even ads in improved gas mileage because the TV even large TV's like a Tahoe will be more level and therefore handle more like it was designed for.

If what you mean by open is that the trailer was in the camping configuration when you measured the tongue weight then you will want to remeasure the tongue weight with the trailer closed (i.e. in the towing configuration). Otherwise the tongue weight will not be what the TV experiences when driving down the road.

We tow almost exactly level without a WDH. I can barley tell the TM is there most of the time when towing.
