Thanks to everyone for all your comments and photos. I ended up making 4 shelves that go completely side-to-side and front-to-back. I ripped some 3/4" pieces of 1x stock to give a square 3/4" x 3/4" piece. I used these pieces at varying lengths to make frames for the shelves as well as corner supports that go under each corner of each shelf. The corner supports are the lighter wood in the third picture -- they are not installed yet but in their approximate position. The shelf is about 3/16" thick luan, so it's probably 1/4" stock (don't you just love lumber yard math?).

Each shelf weighs about 3 lbs 3 oz, so that's about 13 lbs. With the "add-a-shelf" closet thing and closet rod I removed, it's about a 10 lb net gain, which, as I found out, is significant. The wardrobe definitely feels a bit bloated now with some stuff in it. I think with the center cross supports I have on each shelf, I could have gotten away with thinner luan to reduce weight.

The shelves are all glued together and to the corner supports, which in turn are glued to the wardrobe.

Dave

I installed a shelf in the rear outside storage compartment, this added much needed space and I can get my gas grill in there on the shelf and still have room under for water hoses and electric cords.

Dave, nice job on the shelves!

We've added a few here in there, some built in, some not. Whatever helps to organize your "stuff" works!

It's always fun to get the TM customized more to meet your camping & storage needs.

I'm a great fan of little boxes tucked under the drawers and into the farthest reaches of the storage areas. I have metal & fabric lunchboxes, old-style casette-tape "mini-suitcases" and other assorted containers that I keep under the drawers and way in the back of the cabinets for those "just in case" things that we may need.

There's plenty of room in there, if you figure out how to use it!
