Default Tesla and Trailmanor

For anyone interested, about 6 months ago I bought my 2922KS and towed it to New Orleans with my Tesla Model Y, and then this September I towed it from New Orleans to San Diego (took about six days). My range while towing went from 320 to 150ish (max I went was 144 miles between charges). Car had no trouble pulling it, my only head ache was having to disconnect at superchargers to charge.

Interesting, but why do ya need to disconnect?

Was that a calculated range or based off of battery percentage?
Still pretty interesting that it halved.

Presumably, because there isn't enough room to park with a trailer in parking spots where there are chargers, at least not where it would be easy to get in/out, or not block other spots.

Yes interesting indeed. I assume this means the same laws of physics still apply to any kind of motor doing work. No matter the energy source whether battery or fuel powered.

I think this is cool but I think it will kill RVing. Diving 100 miles and having to unhook to charge. Waiting to charge would be a killer.
I hope I am wrong.

There is a YouTube video done by a person who drove his Tesla across country pulling a Casita.

Can't find the video. Got a link?

Thanks for sharing that towing with an EV is possible.

I don't think it will be adopted by the masses until inductive charging becomes a possibility or there are significant changes to battery chemistry allowing faster charging/longer range.

I know that Airstream has shared a concept camping trailer which would carry its own battery bank and could provide drive power assist to the tow vehicle, but that seems to be really a niche product not likely to materialize due to dependency upon direct communication to the TV power (and safety) systems. EV manufacturers would have to be on board for a standard for communications between the TV and the camper and there's just too much that could go wrong unless the tech piece is owned by one entity.

YouTube has a video of a Tesla pulling a Casita across the Country. At one point, he had to leave his camper on the side of the road to make it to a charging station. Very interesting how the wind, rain, and hills will lower the mileage.

I linked this video a couple of years ago. Towing a Trailmanor Sport with a Tesla in BC Canada. The route up the Coquihala is similar to the Grapevine in California. Long steep grade.
