Default large couch reassembly - 2006 3124kb

Help!

My wife is remodeling our Trailmanor and disassembled furniture (both couches and the beds) to reupholster. Life gets in the way and it's been a few months since she took it apart. Having re-assembled, she now has 2 sections of "angle iron" she cannot find a home for. I found a picture in the forum of someone showing angle iron vertically behind the front lower section of the couch (presumably to provide support for the glides that permit the couch's seat to slide out and make a bed). The holes appear to line up here but when installing in this position, a gap presents along the front side of the couch between the seating surface and the lower front fascia.

Any idea what we are missing here?

Before someone says it, I know... pictures of the disassembly would go a long way toward assisting with the re-assembly (hindsight being what it is, and all). Also, I don't have pictures to post (at the moment) because she won't let me see it until she is done.

We re-upholstered our couch in 2017. I'm attaching several thumbnails that may help with your question. As to the gap you describe, our couch does have a small gap in the same location. It is not noticeable unless you look at it straight-on (eye level) though. The gap may be there to facilitate lifting and pulling the seat forward into the bed set up position. It gives you room to slide you hands under the front of the couch seat.

Thanks for the pictures. I'd found them in a previous thread. My wife ended up resolving the issue and is on to the next challenge. She'd originally put contact paper on the counters to "freshen up the look". This did not last even through remodel and has been removed. She is now working on painting them.

The struggle is real

Paint on formica doesn't work well. It scratches easily because the paint doesn't adhere well.

The best solution is to re-laminate the top. If you really want to try paint, I'd suggest a light coat of "shellac primer" first. Let that set up for about an hour then prime with "123 Primer". Let that set until the tacky is gone before painting. Shellac primer is not waterproof but it adheres stronger than acrylic primer, which is waterproof and adheres well to the shellac primer.
