Default 6 in a 2720?

Hi all,

We've got four kids ranging from 7-13. They are all playing many sports so our camping time is extremely limited. Therefore I'd like to find a nice, low maintenance camper that we can store in the garage to make use of whatever we can.

Although I enjoyed the openness of our old pop-up, I'm sure I'd be happier not having to deal with canvas.

Unfortunately if we did buy a Trailmanor we be giving up outside storage, a slide out dinette, and an entire seating area (separate couch).

Does anyone else here camp with 6 or more in a 2720?

Can we all fit at the dinette to eat or will someone be left standing?

And how well is the bunk shell attached to the slide out bed platform? Is it possible to safely sit on the beds with your back propped up against the side or back walls?

How bad will the rainy days be?

Thanks!
Joe

The rear bed is a queen.

The front bed is a double. Although it is narrower than the rear bed, it is a little longer. Just ask my 6 foot 4 inch son.

The dinette will convert to a bed that will sleep two, but they need to be short and good friends. The dinette bed is shorter and narrower than the other two beds.

We have had 5 adults at the table to eat. Two on each side plus one on the end using a camping chair. We only eat inside when it is raining or snowing. Otherwise we eat outside.

I don't see how you could seat 6 people at the table unless you had 3 kids that were small enough to all sit on one side of the table.

Some owners have made an additional leaf for the table. This will make it a little longer. Probably about 4 to 6 inches.

Our daughter (32) is 5 foot 4. She will sometimes sit and either read or eat on the front bed, so that is another possibility.

Various family members have leaned against every side wall around each bed. Just don't lean against the windows.

If I had to I could pop up my freestanding awning and attach the four sidewalls that we almost never use. For a light misty rain I could set up the bug room around the picnic table.

I don't have much experience camping in the rain. I live in California.

Most of the time when we go camping we have with us our daughter (32), son(29) and his wife and our nephew(29). They all sleep in tents. Allegedly I snore but that has never been documented.

In my opinion any child older than around 8 can safely sleep in their own pup tent. This frees up a lot of bed space in the trailer. However, I can see that for someone that lives where there are heavy rain storms during the camping season then tents may not be a good option.

Hope that helps.

The double bed makes a great "living room" in my 2720.
If i were to find myself in your situation I'd put a kid or two up on the bed with a tray or plastic sheet and spread the rest around the dinette.
Sounds like fun to me.

I think the 3124KB would be a better fit. The king bed in the rear can accommodate at least 3 of the kids or maybe all four. Then the front bed can be adults. Only issue is not being able to garage it.

Popbeavers' comment made me think - if you live in a rainy area, you could still put a pup tent under the rear bed overhang (at least in my 2417 there is an overhang that would shelter the pup tent pretty well).

I'm with Pop - put some of the kids in a tent. It will make them really appreciate the TM when they are allowed to sleep in it!

Yeah, that's the deal breaker for me -- garage size. We just don't get out enough to justify a paying for storage or all the maintenance that goes along with 365 days/yr. uncovered storage..

We use the cars every day and the TM 10 or 15 days a year. The value of the garage vs the cost of leaving the TM outside is a slam dunk for me. We haven't found the TM to have any serious maintenance issues from being left outside (or otherwise, for that matter).

Take a look at this 2619 Sport model. It would solve your seating/sleeping problem. They are hard to find, only built in 2006 - 2007.

Edit: Sorry I didn't look closer. This one does not have the swing tongue.

I would agree with Mr A. I reside in a condominim neighborhood and also an HOA that thinks its god.. So I am forced to store outside and pay for the privilege. I cannot see any more maintenance outside storage vs inside.

Swing tongues can easily be added aftermarket by a metal worker/welder -- I believe I've read The Car Show and Custom RV doing it. Can't remember the cost though.
