I am going to replace my tires this summer, and I am going to ask the dealer if he'll take my spare and give me some sort of credit for it. It also hasn't seen the ground. If he doesn't, I'm thinking I'll adopt a policy of changing out the spare every other time I replace the axle tires (which I normally do every ~3 years).
