Default TV cigarette outlet question

So I purchased a two plug USB to go into that TV cigarette style outlet in my 2005 2720. Purchased on Amazon and it would not fit in the outlet? I didn't want to jam it in there in the fear I would not be able to get it out. It was super tight just getting the tip of the plug in. What's the issue here? Seems like a universal sized cigarette outlet. What am I missing?

I had the EXACT same problem... The "port" is smaller than the current specs.

I purchased a NEW dual port on Amazon and installed it in the spot the phone jack was in.

Man I am glad I didn't get the hammer out and try and jam it in there. Lol

So follow up question. Does that TV outlet serve a purpose to reset the 12v side? There are two small push down buttons on there. If I get the new outlet it would not have that. Would it be a problem in the future?

Try putting a drop of vegetable oil on the end of your finger and rubbing a very light coat around the inside of that socket and on the plug itself. I did that and the plug pushed in. Not easily, mind you but I didn't have to really force it.

Wait!!!

Make sure the battery isn't connected! A well-lubed finger into the port could shock you!

"OK Mr. electrical port....bend over and cough!"

No one is going to get shocked on a 12V circuit

Having said that, I wouldn't
go poking around it there with a metal tool or butter knife. That might blow a fuse. Your finger? not so much.

I have had a shock from a battery. It is NOT fun, either disconnect the battery or pull fuses. I guarantee, you will not do it again.

Thanks everyone... I never liked that old plug anyway. I THINK I am just going to upgrade to a USB outlet and call it done.

Good choice. Everything that you buy now has a USB connector anyway. You can get some direct replacement plates with 6 USB outlets. Those big ugly, round 12V outlets are leftovers from the 60's.
