Default Possible to retrofit TM w/swinging tongue?

Is it possible to retrofit a TM with a swinging tongue? Easy, hard, impossible? Otherwise I am about 6-12 inches short of storing in garage.

I saw an older TM in Tennessee that could be made shorter, but it did not have a swing-away tongue. Its owner had purchased it used, and it was like that when he bought it.

Instead of being triangular, the tongue was trapezoidal, with a flat surface closest to the TV and parallel to its bumper. This flat surface had a 2x2 inch receiver in it. A 2x2 inch bar with a coupler on one end was pinned into the TM's receiver and was removable.

Interesting idea. Remember, though, that if you shorten the tongue assembly, it will be easy to jackkife the trailer when backing, and hit the rear of the tow vehicle with the forward corners of the trailer.

The swing-tongue approach doesn't have this problem, obviously, because the tongue is full length when towing.

When I checked last year, the factory can do it for about $900. It takes about a day and a half.

Happy Camping,
