Installed Thetford Vent

About a year ago I was unable to find these parts. I was told they don’t make them anymore. Before you go to too much trouble figuring out how to do it you might check around and see if they are available now.

I made venting out of PCV pipe and put in a little fan called the Lil Stanker. I have found that even without the fan running there seems to be odor coming out of the venting and suspect that that might be all that is needed. ELM-JLM used a vent cap called the Cyclone that you can get from Camping World and went directly out the wall behind the toilet. To use the Lil Stanker you need to vent under the sink making it a bit more of a project but it has eliminated all orders for us.

agrrr.... leave it to thetford to take away a good thing. called them and just as you said its no longer available. Looked at your pictures... I immagine that you remove the vent when you fold up. what do you do with the pipe? do you store it in the hallway? lastly that stinker fan you mentioned its installed under the sink? could you elaborate a little on that? thanks again.

manorlife - if you spend a little time searching, you may find a retailer that still has some in stock. Looks like you're looking for Thetford part #05223 (see attached installation instructions), and it shows in stock here:

If you can't find it domestically, I know the Electra Magic is far more popular in Europe and Australia. I'd check there next, as shipping wouldn't be too obscene for such a small part (especially from Europe).

The outside parts break down and I store it in the bumper. I put fence post storage under the trailer. The bumper storage is now more useful as things don’t get contaminated. This modification was well worth the effort. I did mine like gmferg Post #17

I have noticed as I am installing and disassembling the outside venting that the odor of the toilet is noticeable. I would be a bit concerned if you don’t vent up that you could smell the toilet when you are outside or it could drift in through an open window.

The outside shower is nice. It is roomy, has wonderful views and nothing goes in the grey water tank. We use a biodegradable soap in the hands free shower holder/soap dispenser we have for inside and just move it out. Found a lightweight bamboo shower mat at Costco for it that keeps your feet off the ground.

I think some kind of modification to the inside shower is another worthwhile project. I thought the plastic on the walls, to give you more room and easily replaceable when it get funky, sounded good and it has worked well for us. There are a number of ways people have done the hands free shower holder.

Ran into something this summer that I haven't pursued. There was a sign up stating not to use biodegradable soap as it interfered with oil, to me slime, of fish skin. Looked official as it had the USFS logo. Don't know if anyone has seen this.

just wanted to let eeveryone know that the vent that I ordered was damaged and the vendor reinbursed my purchase so I'm stillon the hunt for one of these vent kits... if anyone knows of a vendor who sells it domestically please let me know by posting a link here. thanks

I think any soap used directly in freshwater streams and lakes is a bad idea.

Many parks ask hikers to do their cleanup with bio-degradable soap at some set-back (? 50' ?) from streams and lakes. That way the soap degrades in the soil before it reaches the surface water. The same approach for trailer campers sounds good to me.

I tried to order one... they are out of stock at RVPlus.
Now, looking for one locally.

Good luck. I tried a few years ago with no luck. Check out what was in the kit, should not be hard to get the pieces.
