Default Bourbon Trail

DW decided she wants to visit the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

There are six or seven distilleries that make up the "Trail" (not including the 'urban bourbon trail' in Louisville). She has also decided that we have to go to Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg, TN (it is not bourbon) on the way to Kentucky.

We are going to stay in Bardstown at White Acres CG along with two dogs, the well traveled Carrie Bradshaw and Buster Brown.

It should be a long relaxing July 4th weekend.

It sounds like you did not fight her too much on the plans!

I've always thought it was funny that the Jack Daniels Distillery is in a dry county..................so you can't legally 'buy' it there

We visited the JD distillery a few years ago.

They managed to get a state law passed that allowed them to sell decorative bottles that were not empty.

Things I found interesting:

1. EPA helped them design filters to reduce air pollution was they make their own charcoal.

2. sniffing the product in the large vats before it goes into the kegs.

3. learning that they only use the barrels once. Then they sell them to distilleries that make bourbon and scotch.

4. I was impressed with the display about purchasing an entire barrel of single barrel whiskey. The whiskey is delivered to your door, bottled and in cardboard boxes, but you get the barrel. It is delivered on a pallet. Close to $10,000 if I recall correctly.

5. Seeing where the water comes out of the ground. A modest stream/large creek flowing out of essentially a small cave.

My wife had to skip some of the tour because she has bad knees.

The local town, Lynchburg I think, was also very interesting to visit. Nice restaurant with family style dining where everyone sits at common tables. Nice way to meet interesting people.

We were visiting family in Nashville, so I have no suggestions regarding RV parks.

Be sure to go to Maker's Mark in Loretto, KY. Fantastic bourbon. My DH was sold on Maker's Mark after we took a bourbon cruise at the Tall Stacks Festival in Cincinnati.
Want to hear more of your trip. Will be one of ours soon.

We have talked about doing this tour. We also want to tour Tabasco in Louisana and the Lodge factory that I think is in Northern Alabama near the Tn. border.

There is actually a Lodge Factory in South Pittsburg, TN. The last full weekend in April, South Pittsburg has a Cornbread Festival. It is quite an event complete with a cornbread cook-off, rides, craft booths, and vendors of various kinds. We went last year and enjoyed it. You can go on a tour of the factory and they have a factory store as well. You can get some good bargains in the seconds part of the store! There may be a Lodge factory in Georgia as well, but I know there is one in Tennessee, near Chattanooga.

Great trip, bought lots of bottles for father in law. We visited two distilleries not on the trail, Buffalo Trace in Frankfort and Tom Moore (1792 and Barton's) in Bardstown.

The bluegrass region is very pretty. We stayed at White Acres in Bardstown and traveled to the various distilleries. While there another 2619 pulled in next to us.

Isn't that close to the hunting store "Big Daddy's"?
