Default Phonenix Area Campground

We like to make a week trip to Phoenix area to meet up with old friends and look around from Bay Area CA. It is most likely 3-4 night camping only in Phoenix area. Any recommendation based on facility condition and amenities? Thanks!

Rinshin -

Although many people don't realize it, Phoenix is the fifth largest city in the country (or is it fourth?) Saying "please recommend a campgournd in Phoenix" is like saying "please recommend a campground in Los Angeles". We need lots more info.

Like Scottsdale, there are no real campgrounds in metro Phoenix, as you would expect. But it doesn't sound like you need to be in metro Phoenix. You don't have to get far outside metro Phoenix to find a lot of interesting places. There are several of us in the Valley of the Sun who can offer advice, but we need some information from you in order to narrow it down.

1. Are you looking for boondocking locations with no hookups? Campgrounds out in the desert, with maybe full hookups but 20 miles from the city? Suburban sites with hoookups but no park amenities? Suburban site with full hookups and easy access to highways? A resort? On a lake? In the mountains? In other words, narrow it down for us - what is your preference for campground type? No matter what you are looking for, there are wonderful campgrounds here.

2. What activities would you like to find nearby? Hiking? Mountain climbing? Rafting/tubing? Museums? Sports? Restaurants?

3. Do you need to be near I-10, to make access to California easy?

4. The Valley is a big place, so location matters. Do you have a preference for east side, west side, far south side? The difference can easily be 30 miles. Where will you spend your week? How far are you willing to drive from your campground to your daily activities?

Help us out. We can help you in return, once we know your needs and preferences.

Bill

Location can be anywhere in Phoenix or nearby. Our friends we will be visiting are located in 3 different corners of Phoenix. The purpose of this trip is mainly to see them one by one and together and look around the area. No boondocking this time - need clean bathroom and clean facility. Although we may eat some foods in our trailer, we will most likely eat dinners at the restaurants on this trip. I'm familiar with Tucson area well (lived there at one time) but not Phoenix (just brief visits only by air and car).

Although I do check the RV review sites it is always nice to hear from those who have the actual first hand experience with the parks.

Thanks!

We've stayed at Desert's Edge RV Park several times. It's on the north side, convenient to freeways without the traffic noise.

Also liked McDowell Mountain regional park outside Scottsdale. Water and electricity but no sewer hook ups. Beautiful desert setting in the hills.

Desert's Edge was a handy, clean park for us too when we had family visits in the Phoenix area.

Well when we go to Phoenix we stay at a place that has W/S/E and it's right in the center of the City (32 and Camelback) but it my son's driveway. And I' m not free to offer it to anyone. (sorry) LOL
