Default How hard is it to add a rear hitch receiver?

We are looking to buy a used TrailManor. But we need a way to carry our bikes and not many of the older models have them.
How difficult is it to add a hitch receiver to the rear?
Are there plans somewhere or a standard way to do it?
How much does it cost?
Thanks!

Google universal receiver hitch and you'll come up with receivers designed for RV's. A class three will support around 350 lbs but is not for towing, just for bikes or gear. Some require welding, however. I'm thinking of doing the same.

Many have done so, but I would definitely have a company that installs hitches do it for me.

You will have to be mindful of weight distribution. While the Trailmanor is hitch heavy compared to other trailers, and is very resistant to sway, adding a lot of weight on the back will remove hitch weight and increase the possibility of sway. Also keep in mind that the grey water tank is also behind the axle, which would also add to this problem if you are travelling with a full grey water tank and bikes.

Don’t know if you are pulling with a truck, but on our truck, we mount bikes on a setup over the bed of the truck. It’s Yakima, so kind of pricey, but it works great.

To follow up on fairweatherfisherman's suggestion - I have used a front receiver on my previous tow vehicles and on the one I am using now. Depending on which tow vehicle type you are using, there may be a front receiver option that would work.

Default rear hitch

We added a 2" receiver hitch.Payed to have it welded to the frame. We bought a "CURT"brand universal hitch. It's beefy -we put either bikes or the big bulk basket when we bring a generator and need to keep it up off the ground.Excellent addition.

Default TM Rear Hitch receiver

I bought a official TM hitch receiver from another TM owner. I'm not that handy, but I was able to install it myself. It's worked great for many years. Maybe you could get one from the plant?
