Default Protecting the Plumbing

I'm looking for ideas on building a 'cage' around the plumbing to protect it in the event of a blowout. We're planning a three week trip to the southwest in September and would really like to not have to worry about ripping out the plumbing if the tire on that side goes.

I believe someone has done something like this but I can't seem to find the thread.

Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

Bob

Default Cage for sell?

If someone has a cage that we can bolt on to these TM's to protect the waste plumbing PLEASE drop me a line. I am not that good working with metal. I know someone was selling a screen door a while back perhaps there may be a market for the cage??????

Here's a picture of the one we made:

Luckily I haven't had the chance to try it out!

Just looking at it and the spray foam I put into the area around the pipe where I thought mice could get in, I wonder if it would help to spray foam all around the plumbing inside the cage (I'd have to put a backing on it to hold it in). We used spray foam when we put in the wheelwell retrofit and even though we've had two blowouts, the foam really protected the cabinets. It wouldn't look very nice, but if it would help...it might be worth a try. Maybe we could put a sheetmetal liner around the front, or something?

Wow - that looks nice! Are those just shelf brackets towards the front? How difficult was it to drill bolt holes in that frame piece?

Yes, those are shelf brackets.

The holes were already there.

Default We just has a blowout...

My family was an hour outside of Oklahoma City on a cross-country trip when the treads peeled off and took out our plumbing. Strangly enough, the tire remained pressurized and we were able to drive off the highway to a safe spot for a tire change. The plumbing though, was plumb gone.

Anyway, I absolutely have to build a tire guard.

You have my deepest sympathies. We've had two blowouts, but they've been on the passenger side (non plumbing). I'm thinking more and more about encasing the entire plumbing area in foam. I've read about test uses of foam systems inside cars instead of just using air bags and seat belts to protect passengers. They seem to work fairly well, but would you still be able to breathe?

I guess you can still sleep in the TM and use a dishpan in the sink and the campground facilities until you can find somewhere to buy parts and get things repaired.
