Default Best method to repair roof?

There are a couple of puncture holes in the aluminum that I'd like to do amore permanent fix on. What is the best method to repair and make my roof watertight?

How large are the holes?

Default Well, I should clarify.

There is only one hole on the outside. The previous owner closed the TM with the fire extinguisher on the counter. It went completely thru the lower shell and thru the ceiling of the upper shell. I haven't removed the patch that's there to see how big the hole is, but estimate it would be 4" diam. or so.

Well that's no fun! For the holes on the outside (the ones that don't show, in other words), I would simply cut a piece of sheet aluminum, maybe an inch larger than the hole on each side, and pop-rivet it in place with aluminum rivets. Use a sealant, probably RTV, between the roof and the patch, and maybe put some expanding foam in the hole first, if there is a lot of the original foam missing. Then some rubberized RV roof paint over the whole thing.

Repairing the inside (where it shows) is more problematic. You could probably get a scrap piece of the aluminum skin material from the factory, so the color and the stipple pattern would match. Pop rivets again would hold it in place, with some "glue" to make the edges lie flat. Maybe some white caulk, smoothed with your finger. But it will always show.

Another episode of my never ending series of "people do stupid things". Recently, I "again" managed to do more roof damage. This time it was a gash measuring about a 5" x 1/4" on the front right side of the forward shell.

Attached is a picture of what Billy Mays Mighty Putty http://www.mightyputty.com
and some white appliance paint from Home Depot will do.

I did not sand it completely smooth so I might still go back and sand off the paint so I can get a smoother finish and paint it again.

According to the infomercials Mighty Putty is water proof, can be sanded, painted and holds up to 350 Lbs. I dont think the patch will ever be subjected to 350 Lbs of suction unless I apply the other Billy Mays gadget "Get-A-Grip".

When you look at the picture the patch is inboard of the dent that is closest to the edge. The dent is a separate and independent exercise, not associated with this my most recent act of brilliance.

Well I'm impressed! Maine Jeff - listen to Mario and Idie, not me!
