Well I finally did it, I got rid of the old dirty carpet. Once I got up enough nerve to rip out the old stuff it was pretty straight foward job. Of course the most time was removing all those staples. I cleaned the floor good with citrus cleaner and painted with 123 primer. Once all was dry I layed out where I wanted my first tile to be and went from there. The slide area was a bit of a challenge but after removing the carpet I decided to paint the exposed area on each side with a cream colored enamel and bought a piece of metal trim for the front edge. Once I get everything finished I'll post a couple pix. I ordered a floor seal for the toilet today and when that comes in I'm going to replace the tile in the bathroom to match and put a piece of trim in the doorway to allow for the 3/8" rise in the floor. My DW says it looks bigger inside now but I swore to her I didn't enlarge a thing.

You'll be so happy with your new floor...all you need to do to clean it is just sweep it out and take a cloth to the floor to "mop". We love ours and comment to ourselves each time we go camping how glad we are that we got rid of the carpet.

Looking forward to the pictures!

I finally finished the tile floor and posted pix above. We can now clean the floor in less than a minute.

It looks great...bet it brightened it up some too! You did a nice job...the pattern runs true and looks good with the sofa.

Has anyone tried using the vinyl planking called Allure that is sold at home depot?

That's what we used. It's very easy to use. We were able to cut it so close that we didn't even need to use moldings. It looks great.

I recommend doing what Larry Gault did.....get the floor very clean, light sand it and use a thin of coat of "123 Primer". Obviously, the primer doesn't have to be pretty. It just gives you a good surface to adhere to.

Wayne - what is that panel on the wall adjacent to the oven? You'd pass it on your left as you walk in. Looks like switches. I have a fire extinguisher there.
