Thumbs up 4th of July Cake

Found this posted online. What a great idea for the upcoming July 4th holiday. This is definately going to be served during our vacation at Eagle Lake this 4th of July. Anyone else have any good recipe ideas to celebrate Independance Day?

Default Yummy

Oh that looks good Brigitte. If I was going to make this, I think I might use a lemon or white cake recipe or cake mix with Cool Whip, that would be really refreshing with the fruit.

I love to cook and experiment with new dishes, but for the 4th of July, I'm all about the traditional fare - grilled burgers, hot dogs, ribs, steak, potato salad, corn on the cob, watermelon - that kind of thing. Mmmmmm Mmmmmm.

Thanks for the fun idea.

Hi Sharon, thank you for your tips... I liked the Cool Whip idea and also thought about lemon or white cake if I am going to bake one.

Here's a neat "no bake" flag cake that can be easily put together in the TM without having to heat the oven:

Flag Cake

(I generally make 1 and a 1/2 of this recipe)

1 tub Cool-Whip at room temperature

1 Sara Lee pound cake (or 2, see below)

about 1 cup blueberries

about 2 cups strawberries (cut in half long-ways)

Cut the pound cake into 10 slices and layer them in the bottom of the pan. Top with half the blueberries and half the strawberries. At this point you may add a second layer of pound cake if desired.

Spread the Cool-Whip on top with the back of a spoon. Add the blueberries in an orderly rectangle and then begin to add the strawberries so that the fruit and Cool-Whip make stripes.

Chill until ready to serve.

I think I have just found my favorite forum topic. The only thing I like more than eating, is eating more.

I showed this to my wife, and she is going to try it. I told her to be more like the NIKE ads, and just do it.
