Default New Addition to the family

hi all,
since we have to post at least once not to be deleted, here goes! I used to tent camp. Then I adopted Dobermans. Dobermans + tents + raccoons = disaster.
I have never towed anything, so I decided on a TM. Found out that Custom RV in Anaheim was about 4 blocks from my house! Saw a few and knew that was it. Ended up buying one on ebay. Drove from Anaheim to Irving, TX in May03. Picked it up late evening - not my choice. Got lost on the way to the CG. After that fiasco, I arrived at 11pm. EASY to set up in the dark, first time, no directions.

I did rip out the carpet & put in vinyl tile (& easy clean industrial mats near the entry). no more dirty paws! The "kids" get the front bed and I get the rear. I have a gate type thing so they can't jump up to the rear bed and join me in the middle of the night. Wait, why am I in the "kennel"?

So far, GusGus, Tinkerbell and I have gone to Sequoia Nat'l park for a week and the Morro Bay, CA area for a week. Looking forward to many more trips.

Great tips on this board! and many repairs & upgrades I can do myself....on a budget!

cheers,
forensicgoddess

OK, Goddess,

You've got to give us a clue about how you came up with the handle. My dictionary includes two definitions for forensics.

1. crime-solving: relating to the application of science to decide questions arising from crime or litigation; forensic evidence

2. of debating: relating to debate and formal argumentation;
forensic oratory

Either one of these have an influence on your choice?

No matter how you came up with it, you get my vote for most creative handle so far.

BTW, the smartest dog (and also one of the sweetest and best natured) I ever knew was a female Doberman. I don't know if she could read, but she could do everything else.

Since I generally like all dogs, and seem to get along with them pretty well, I naturally assume they will like me as well. Many of the Dob's don't seem to share my viewpoint. You obviously have much more knowledge about their outlook on life. Any comments relative to their aloof attitude?

hi! On my way out, I drove to the Van Horn, TX KOA and stayed in a Kamping Kabin the first night. Then I picked up the TM in Irving. Then, not having the skills to merge with a large object attached to my truck, I missed many offramps and turns. I saw much of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area - while driving in circles. Yes, I had maps. Lots of them. But you have to know where you are in order to use them. I finally found my way south on the 45. I have absolutely no idea where I stopped. I just pulled into some CG that had the office light open. The lady was sooooo nice. Yes, there was a pull thru left! I had the TM set up and was asleep in no time. I was SO won over by (TM's)the fact that I got settled in no time after being completely stressed out. Paid cash - left early. Next day, passed through Houston. Got to San Antonio KOA. Stayed 2 nights. Enjoyed that Riverwalk area. Figured out most other things on the TM. Made note to contact factory and ask for owners manual. The doggies appreciated the TM A/C while in SNT. There was a newer 2619 at SNT!!! They set up & disappeared inside. Drove to Lordsburg, NM KOA next. Sleep there, not a place to linger. Drove home to Anaheim. Welcome to CA - that will be $524 to register your TM thank you. gasp....choke...... Parked on street - not in mood to back up into driveway. Next time, my TX trip will be a more leisurely vacation, not a speed run. Saw SO many places I wanted to stop. But being ForensicGoddess gets in the way sometimes.

Yes, definition 1 is accurate. Some people are called Crime Scene Investigators, Evidence Technicians, Forensic Specialists..... but I am the Forensic Goddess. Just like the TV show.......CSI .... only not really.......I don't solve homicides wearing light pink shirts and heels. And we don't have a Hummer H2 as our scene response vehicle.

Dobes are aloof? Kidding. They were initially bred to bond with one person. All the dobes I have had are aloof until I say "ok", then they turn into Labradors & try to climb in your lap. I am involved with Doberman rescue, so although I only have 2 of my own, there have been over 30 that have passed through my house this year. I love traveling with them, because unsavory characters never bother me!

I may be giving myself the benefit of the doubt here, but you can safely assume that one relatively savory character won't hassle you either.
