Default Towing with Gray Water Tank Full

Just a question for the forum: Has anybody (else) had problems with gray water tank damage caused by driving (long distance) with the tank full?

I experienced this with our old 95 3326, and since have adopted the policy of emptying that tank before traveling. I'm wondering though, if it's just me....

I have done it a few times. We only had a TM since Feb this year. I'm rethinking it, since hearing about you issue.

We just came home and traveled about 150 miles with 20 gallons of gray water on the trailer. I didn't have any problems, but I don't want to have any in the future and will think about finding a dump station earlier next time.

The potential for damage would depend a lot on road conditions you encounter. Bumpy roads with a full tank would put more stress on the tank mounts.

The only time I didn't empty was when the tank was slushy/frozen. Had to get back to GA to thaw out.

No problems for us, but we have a KOA just down the road at home where we can dump when we get home.

What's leaking?

We have a 1997 and never any issues other than overfilling.

Nothing's leaking on my 2007 3124KS, because we don't trailer significant distances with water in the gray water tank.

On my 95 3326, screws loosened and came out along one side of the tank. When the tank was empty, it stayed up between the frame cross-members, and looked fine. When the tank was full, the weight would push the tank down on one side, and crack the joint where the drain line attached to the tank. Once we figured out what was causing the joint to crack (every time we checked, the tank was empty) we were able to repair it for good.

The real purpose of this thread was to see if other forum members have had issues with carrying gray water around with them. So far, it looks like the answer is "No."

Thanks, Dave, for the heads up. I haven't had any issue, but now I won't travel with a full grey water tank anymore. Smooth highway surfaces probably would not be a problem, but there aren't alot of those around anymore. Going slow on a dirt road wouln't be a problem, but a six inch deep pothole in the highway at 60 MPH might be.

I've not had a problem, although I travel with gray rank empty more than not. Design should handle transport when full. I would think they would warn you otherwise.

I know this is an old thread, but I used a couple of water heater tank earthquake straps if i recall from frame member across the bottom of the tank to the other frame member. i adjusted the straps to provide support to the tank. Our 02 3023 had leaking hair line cracks i repaired with an abs putty i made with abs shards and abs glue. So far no issues and i have towed with it full of grey water.
