Default 30 amp Inline Fuse question

The 30 amp inline fuse on the battery lead blew for the first time. In looking at the fuse type I discovered it's 30 Amp, 32V. Shouldn't it be 30 Amp 12V? If so, where can they be purchased? I googled for 3AG 30 Amp, 12V fuses with no luck.

My opinion is that the voltage doesn't matter as long as rating is above what you need. Only thing that really matters is the amps and whether fast or slow blow.

Imagine 32v is so can be used in Marine applications.

If mine ever blows I have a blade holder with fuse I'll substitute.

Thanks Padgett. I'm selling it and discovered the fuse was blown when I put the battery back in and the lights didn't work. If I was to keep it, I'd go with a blade type fuse or a breaker.

Real question is "Why did it blow" ? is the fuseholder discolored ? Have rodents been at the wiring ? Not much in a TM that should put a 30A load on a battery. OTOH I suspect the charger is capable of more. Were you trying to charge a dead battery when it blew ?

My unit had the same glass fuse. It was giving me problems and had a higher resistance then it should. I read on this site a lot of people have had issues with the glass fuse, so I replaced with a blade fuse holder and a 30 amp fuse.

We did that too and have had no further problems.

Good question - the answer is on the converter information decal - see attached thumbnail. "Electrical rating: Output: 32 amps at 12VDC"

Mine ('06) is a little bigger. Note the AC is on a 20A breaker.

I replaced mine with an inline 30 amp circuit breaker. It automatically resets after the overload situation is corrected.

Personally would prefer a manual reset. If it popped, I'd want to know why.

One thing does concern me: In a car if at a high charge and you suddenly disconnect the battery, the voltage skyrockets momentaily as the field collapses (ELI the ICE man). I have seen a 55A 10DN exceed 100v. It is a quick way to blow any other electronics on the 12v line.

Wonder how the WCO reacts.
