Default Patching a Crack in the Shower Base

Has anyone replaced the shower base? Mine has a crack. Can it be fiberglassed or must it be replaced? Jim and Marlene

Do you mean the gizmo that the shower head slips into to hold it while you shower? If so...you can buy then at Camping World for a couple of dollars. They come in white, beige or off white and crome color.

This may be what you are looking for: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...ll-mount/34913

If you're talking about the bathtub, check out this thread, read #4:

I think ripp1202 is still here on the board.

Someone here also mentions a fiberglass patch:

Thanks B and D. I think I will use the patch solution. BW says she isn't overly concerned with the color which makes it a little easier.

If you intend to F/G patch the tub, I would suggest laying down 2-layers of 4 or 6oz F/G cloth over the entire tub bottom. That way, you will only have to do it once.

You can get the F/G cloth and polyester resin from any marine store.

If you need instructions on how to proceed, let me know.

Thank you harveyrv. I have a fiberglass kit here but the cloth is rather narrow. Will try to get some wider stuff. Jim

Ya......best to cut it to the exact size you need. Notch the corners of the cloth so that you don't end up with a wad in the corners. I ran mine about 2" up the sides. Lay down one layer and work out the air bubbles with a brush, then lay down the 2nd layer (wet-on-wet).

Be sure to wash the tub out with TSP 1st, then sand the tub with 100G paper and wipe it out with Acetone. That procedure is critical. If you sand the tub without washing it thoroughly with TSP, you will only sand the soap particles and body oil into the tub surface and cause all kinds of problems.

Mask around the tub, about 4" up and run your resin up to the masking. Sand and paint. You don't need to match the color (2-tone would like great).
