Thumbs up first campsite

I have bought a used trailmanor (3023--2001) in Ft. Worth TX. and will pick it up next Friday night, but need a little help as it will be our fist trailer experience in about 15 years and the last one was a tent trailer.
*Anyone know of a good place to try out near Ft. Worth or Arlington TX.?

* when a campground says no pop ups allowed does that mean Trailmanor also?

*I will be taking the trailer back to Arizona after the first day or so of checking it out, so also looking for nice places to stay off I- 10 going west. Maybe Davis mountains or New Mexico.
Thanks in advance for any help to a real green camper!
John

Hi John, congratulations on becoming a TM owner and welcome!

Cedar Hills State Park would be ideal for your first camping trip. It is located in Cedar Hills or Arlington between Dallas & Ft. Worth, can't remember off hand, but it's very nice... beautiful views of Joe Pool Lake, great fishing and the Blue Bonnet's should be blooming right now. We used to live 1 mile from the lake and loved it. Do take pics to share with us if you go! ENJOY!

No, a TM is a hard-sided Travel Trailer, it is not a pop-up... it is an expandable trailer tho. We've never had any problems and just tell them it's a 27' Travel Trailer when I make reservations on the phone or online.

Thank you very much, and the cedar Hill campground sound perfect. I am a little nervous as we have never had things like bathrooms, water heaters, airconditioners, and heaters in a trailer. I expect to get the guy I bought from to run me through all the details and I will forget most of what he says. We will do fine. thanks again

Here are a couple more links:

Lloyd Park is the park that was within walking distance from our house. We used to go there quite often (had an annual permit). I have to warn you, there are large groups of hispanic speaking people who often were noisy (loud latin music, drinking, etc) and littered the place quite a bit - I'm not sure if it's still the same or if it's better now - it's been almost 3 years since we lived there. I don't know if it was that way in the campground, but it was in the picnic areas and along the lake. Otherwise it's a good park. Personally I liked Cedar Hills SP better, however Lloyd was a bit more convenient for us being it was so close. Depends on personal preference I guess.

I think I will enjoy the help that this website provides from memebers like you. Thanks Bridgette or Steve and Leon. Leon I have been looking at the site for about 4 years before joining and have seen Texas camper many times on the site. It jumped out at me as I was born and raised in Dallas and lived in Texas until 1984.

If you stay in Deming, and don't mind driving off the Interstate for a few miles (around 7 or 8, I think - it's been a while...) Rock Hound State Park is beautiful. Nice, big, wide sites, water/electric hookups, right at the base of the Floridas Mtns. There are lots of commercial CGs there, close to I-10, but the ones we've stayed at in Deming really like to pack 'em in.

Good luck with your new TM!

Bob
