Default Mounting Hardware

What is the best mounting hardware that someone has used to attach a shelve to the upper shell? Must be capable of holding Toaster Oven

Attaching things to the upper shell limits your options since it has to be fairly flush. The OEM cabinets attach with flat screw in hook type mechanism where the flat part is attached to the wall and the hook is on the cabinet. This actually work pretty well but can sometimes be tricky to line up- especially if you're lifting a large cabinet to the wall.

The other kind of device I've used is a very flat plat that I used to attach an LCG flat screen TV to the wall. These work more like a vertical rail. One edge of one plate fits into the edge of the other plate. It's a little tricky to line things up- especially with a TV where you can't see either plate.

One last option are called security hangers- they're used by the picture framing industry to mount artwork on the walls of hotels and businesses. They actually have a lock on them that you need a tool to unlock them with. You don't have to use the tool and they mount very flush. I'm guessing you have to go to a frame company to get these- although I recall seeing something similar at a local hardware store.

Good luck.

Phil

The TM factory or a local TM dealer (if one is close) should be able to provide the factory hangers. They work well and have special screws that hold in the walls better.

These are great for securing anything on the walls of the TM. If you get one of the brackets from a TM dealer, you will sill have to have a fastener to secure the bracket to the thin aluminum panel. Just running a sheet metal screw into the panel is pretty useless. They strip out very easily.

Well-nuts work great:

You drill a hole through the aluminum panel to fit the rubber insert. The insert has a steel nut inside. When you put a screw in it and tighten, the rubber insert spreads out on the back side of the aluminum panel and secures it. They are commonly used to hold roof racks to car roofs.

I just got some too to secure the table that has pulled out of the wall. Thanks also for the tip, Wayne!

Glad they worked out for you. I think that they are a "must have" for any RV owner.

Wayne -

Do you know what specific advantage the well nuts have over a more traditional hollow wall mounting fastener? They work in the same way, i.e. they mushroom when tightened, but with the well nuts being rubber, maybe they will dry out as they age or get very cold. Although if they are used to mount roof racks to a roof, there has got to be something special about them.....

Maybe for the roof of a car it keeps the rain out.

I have used toggle bolts and molly anchors at home. I have never used anything in my TM. I have never use the rubber nuts used for roof racks.
