Default Bottom door Jack Lock not latching

The pin on the door jam is 1/8" too tall. I spend 10 minutes trying to muscle this piece into the latch. I push up on the door, I pull down on the jam. It's extremely difficult to achieve this connection with one person.

Anyone else had this problem? Is there an easy solution.

Thank you

Can you tunk it down gently with a mallet? Be gentle - don't overdo, you don't want to break anything. I've had this problem, and I'm trying to remember what the solution was. My vague memory says it had to do with the height of the shell, rather than the length of the pin. It is fixable without major repairs - I'll come back if my cloudy memory clears up.

By the way, what is that random-looking link at the bottom of your post? [No answer, so I removed it.]

If the pin on your door jam is 1/8"" too tall, causing difficulty in connecting it to the latch, you could try the following solutions:

Sand the Pin: If the pin is made of metal, you could use a metal file or sandpaper to remove some material from the top of the pin until it fits properly into the latch. Make sure to remove material evenly and check the fit often to avoid removing too much.

Shave the Latch: If the latch is made of plastic, you could use a sharp blade or utility knife to carefully shave some material from the top of the latch until it fits properly over the pin. Make sure to shave evenly and check the fit often to avoid removing too much.

Install Spacers: If the pin is too tall and cannot be adjusted, you could try installing spacers between the door and the jam to raise the jam and bring the pin into alignment with the latch.

Consider a Replacement: If the above solutions do not work, you may need to replace the latch or the pin with a correctly sized component.

It's important to use caution when modifying or adjusting door components, as this can affect the operation and safety of the door. If you're unsure about the best course of action, consider seeking the help of a professional locksmith Belgravia.

Terry,
It's likely that your front shell height just needs to be adjusted. Will you share a photo with the group to help confirm that's the issue?

PLEASE DO NOT structurally alter the door pin; that can't be undone.

I came here to say what Rich said…

The pin didn’t grow. The lift arm near the door probably slid down on the torsion bar ever so slightly, possibly others are out of adjustment as well.

This thread is a year old tomorrow, so it is unlikely that Terry still has the problem. However, my guess is that Rich and Shane have hit the mark, so we will leave it in place in case someone else experiences the same issue.
